SYC meets each Friday night between 08:00 p.m. and 09:30 p.m. during school term time. It is aimed at young people who are approximately 13 years old and over (Year 8 to Year 11). The objective of SYC is to give the young people access to the resources and activities that Bolton Road Methodist Church has to offer. We attempt to treat all the young people as young adults and give them some space to express themselves but in return we do expect them to abide by some common sense rules that are based on respect for others and property. We do have an entrance fee of £1 per night. The resources and activities available include: Youth room with Tuck shop, PCs, PlayStations, Pool Table, Table Football, Air Football, CD/Radio, Dance Mat. Sports Hall where activities such as 5-a-side Football, Volley Ball, Basketball, Indoor Cricket, Table Tennis and other sports have been played. Lounge where the young people can just sit and chat. Access to the church and the drum kit where a small band has formed. We have done some external trips which have included LaserQuest, Ice Skating, Canoeing, Walking and Trips to Alton Towers. We are also willing to consider other resources/activities suggested by the young people. The activities are generally driven by the numbers and the wants and needs of the young people who turn up on the night. All the leaders are friendly and approachable and are happy to talk to the young people or just listen! We are a church based Youth club and we do from time to time have Christian speakers and also if any of the young people want to discuss Christianity, the church, our faith or any other spiritual matters or personal concerns we are happy to do so or have access to other resources/groups. |
